Vibrant Nail Colours That Are Perfect for Summer

In today’s climate, that means that it’s time to leave behind the bright neons and pastels of summer and move on to warmer, more earthy nail polish shades that are better suited to fall fashion trends. We reached out to manicurists and nail colour specialists to find out the latest and hottest nail hues for the fall season and some tips on how to attain the perfect nail polish finish. Read on to find out how to get the best of the season by admiring the 13 shades of nail polish one should consider wearing this autumn.

Ballet Pinks Nails

Nude pink is one that cannot be missing and each collection has at least one pink shade. Sarah Chue, a manicurist of Los Angeles, recommends keeping an eye out for ballet pinks that have warmth. “Polishes such as Essie’s Sugar Daddy have assumed that lucrative position of the staple polish of the fall season,” she explains. “The creamy beige base is a good contrast to the hint of blush that still feels soothingly girly with the darker undertones of autumn.”

While painting the nails with ballet pink colour she said that one should apply a very thin layer so that the naked pink colour of the nail bed can be seen. ‘An obvious application of these polishes shapes an exquisite, ballerina-style appearance,’ she further contributes. To achieve the best results, one needs to first apply a nail primer on the nails.

Earthy Olive Greens Nails

Earthy olive green nail polishes help us relate to the colour shades of autumn and are natural and hence are calming to the eyes. Celebrity manicurist Steph Stone also echoes this: “Shades like Olive Ave from Essie’s new fall collection complements deeper skin tones rather well in my experience.” ‘It appears more gray-green, providing an earthy feel which is at the same time energizing and goes well with the oranges, browns and burgundy so common in clothing during the autumn season.”

Stone then recommends using olive polish in a thin successive layer so as to achieve the best coverage and then seal with a sheen inducing quick-dry clear coat. “To avoid chipping, I would like to stress that it is important to cover the tips of the nails with each coat.”

Misty Morning Blues Nails

The hazy looking morning sunrise over the fallen leaves in the autumn season gives the nail polish shades a dull and misty blue look that perfectly reflects the magnificent sorrow of the season. “Shades like OPI’s Suzi Says Feng Shui, which barely has a grey-blue tinge, make me feel like the smell of rain after a shower in the early autumn,” shares manicurist Hannah Lee. “It can be described as a tune that is sometimes gloomy and at other times relaxing.”

When going for this light blue nail polish during the fall season, ensure that its application corresponds to the season’s rather introverted feel. Lee recommends that you use it sparingly, for a pale, gauzy veil that looks like a mist slowly advancing across a lake on a foggy day. ‘Coat the tips and end with a layer of the quick-dry top coat to enhance its coverage.’

Spiced Burgundy Nails

While deep reds and wines are characterized as the colours of a fall nail, California-based manicurist Vanessa McCullar believes that burgundy nails will be ever more popular in the year to come. “Opulent shades like 999 Dior expand the range of traditional autumn reds due to the brownish tones associated with spiced wine, ripe fruits, or maple tree leaves that have turned yellow and orange,” she adds.

Similarly to the description of preparing the ground for spiced burgundies, McCullar recommends putting on two thin layers with time between them. “Wait until the polish is just sticky in between coats,” she says? “This prevents the colour from fading out or developing bubbles while creating an even intensity.” Apply a shiny coat to give the lips a juicy look.

Warm Browns Nails

Rustic warm chocolate browns easily associate with fall essentials such as pie crusts, baked goodies, and spiced beverages. When it comes to nail polish, Kandalec, a celebrity manicurist, has this to say: “Even in nail lacquers, we can see elements of the fall season; for instance, there’s Essie’s Mink Muffs and Chai Latte.” The texture of the creamy finish gives the skin a nourished look and the brown shade complements fall outfits.

If you are putting on a warm brown polish, it is important to apply the layers lightly to avoid having a streaky look. ‘The wet appearance of the nail polish design must subside before another layer is applied,’ she teaches. “Last, apply a high-gloss sheen of quick-drying clear topcoat for extra luster.”

Moody Blues Nails

Shades of blue that are darker and bluer than the preceding summer, provide an air of drama, as well as embodying the feeling of fall. “This is probably one of the most popular trends for the nails – a navy blue base perfect for the fall nail art,” says McCullar. “Such as, Nail Poppy’s Lapiz of Luxury is classy, which makes it appropriate to be worn on it without any add-ons.”

For a dark blue lacquer to be more effective, one has to apply three thin layers that must be done at different times to allow drying. “To avoid chipping, McCullar recommends wrapping the free edge of the nail first and then applying colour on it. The final step is to apply a drop of top coat so that the manicure gives a nice, shiny appearance.

Eggshell White Nails

A cute nail colour that can be tried is an eggshell or creamy off white as opposed to the bright white for the school year. The actress also notes that shades of off-white look appropriate for the fall while maintaining the correspondence to the neutrals that have become popular in fashion. For the season of autumn, she finds the perfect paint brand Gellen’s Duchess as the perfect off-white.

It is very thin and if painted, it offers a sheer coverage that lets the naked nails with their grooves and ridges look like they are naked or painted with eggshell or ivory colour. “Wear polish with thin layers and leave a little of the natural nail colour showing,” Gracie suggests. To make nails dry it’s important to apply a quick-dry top coat to seal the design and keep the nails protected.

Hot Pinks Nails

Some barbie pinks which are popular during the summer are reportedly put away for winter whereas hot, rich jewel toned polish pumps up autumn. “Any kind of fuchsia … flatte[s] all skin tones and can … give us a pick-me-up when seasonal affective disorder rears its head,” Kandalec notes. “For everyday use, my favourite is Daisy by Colour Club, especially for the autumn season – the lipstick can be applied lightly for a semi-sheer pink-y tint and built up to a bright magenta.”

As with most bright shades, such as hot pinks, one should be careful not to make the application look sloppy and careless, special attention should therefore be paid to the way one applies the polish on the nails. “They suggest that the bands should be painted with two even layers of glitter, with a break in between to avoid glitter clumping and for the glitter to give its full pigment,” Kandalec explains. Glossy top coat should cap the fingertips to give the fingers the much-needed layer of surface protection, all the while emulating wet look sheen.

Cool Matte Black Nails

Whether one person is simple and desires to wear only nude colour on his nails or a lady who wants to look gothic and glamorous, the perfect colour for fall is matte black. “That is why I prefer the Zoya Matte Velvet formula because of its high sheen blackness,” responded Lee. “The use of matte texture adds a certain ‘edge’ to the design while maintaining a very chic and classy look.”

Since black polish is very slippery, messy even when applied, Lee suggest using a lip brush in applying the polish on the nails. “When drawing along the contours where cuticles are located and nail borders, use the sharper tip,” Ms. Fan is brief. “Lastly, the complete manicure is achieved by applying the colour to the entire nail and using a layer of matt finish to make it last longer.”

Two-Toned Reds Nails

Innovative red nail polish pairs such as those composed of ombré nails done during the season and Louboutin’s distinct red sole polishes are ideal for bridging the gap. “Painting nails in burgundy and having an accent in red is a perfect representation of falling foliage, and, of course, the appreciation of all things that are associated with autumn,” explains Stone. “It was like having a pallet that was both ‘girly’ and ‘feisty’.”

Sequencing of the application of two-toned red nails differs which affects outcomes. “Paint red polish over clean bare nails first and as you wait for it to dry, that is enough, you do not need to put any other polish on it,” says Stone. “Follow by applying a rather darker and more vivid shade of burgundy to provide with the main nail surface, making an ombré blend of several colours in the 3D look.” Apply a layer of the top coat to level and protect the created design.

Metallic Shine Nails

Contrary to many other accessories, Foil and chrome nail polishes should not be packed away after the summer season as per McCullar. “Shiny metallic finish as applied on the lip products look rather peculiar for the season but still bring a hint of happy glitter,” she notes. Her metallic pick for autumn: In Nailberry’s fall collection, there is a character named Mademoiselle. “That is very shiny like rose gold, and it is the best colour for fall,” McCullar adds.

If you want to achieve maximum shine with foil and chrome nail polishes, it is recommended to paint on a treatment base coat that will help fill in ridges and leave the nails smooth to reflect light. Then, to give it that shiny look, paint two layers of metallic lacquer and allow for a short drying period between each layer. Make sure you seal the look with a quick dry top coat to prevent the polish from chipping off quickly.

Bright Orange Nails

With the help of a vivid shade of orange nail polish, one can think of pumpkin spice and everything nice for the approval of fall. “Shades of orange are more fun, cheerful and has direct reference to autumn and its fruits, or changing foliage and the Halloween that is around the corner,” J.

Although creams can be applied using hands which can be messy, J has advised that for a neater application, OPI’s sheer Orange You Stylish should be used because it provides a shiny polish in glossy lacquer. “While orange polish applied without the addition of any other colours provides a chance to see the natural warmth of nails, although it looks more natural,” as she adds. All that has to be done is to paint the nails with 2 thin coats and wait for a short time between each coat, then use a top coat to add more shine and to seal the surface to avoid chipping.

Green Envy Nails

Emerald greens do not disappear while the fall nail trends are popular; thus, you can show your inner witch all year round. “Dark green hues – moody, magical and so fitting to the season – capture the spirit of fall fashion and the supernatural,” Chue adds. For her favourite, Essie chose Playing Koi, a deep green colour with shimmer from the fall 2022 collection.

To ensure that the outcome is a perfect manicure done with a nice green polish, begin by preparing your nails well. “Place a layer of base coat on clean and dried nails to level high points and hide flaws,” Chue says. Then apply two full coats of Playing Koi and ensure that the paint dries before the subsequent application. Then, apply a clear coat that dries quickly to protect it and give the nails a shiny appearance.

Essentials of Awesome Foliage Season Manicure

The options do not end with them and are perfect to add a touch of fashionable shades to your nails during the fall of 2022. These deep reds and brown hues are perfect for mimicking the hues of the changing leaves or simply enhancing any ensemble for the fall season: All while killing it at manicure goals. You simply don’t want to leave off with the last basic process of applying a top coat to set in the colour, gloss and durability of any of those lovely fall nail polish of your choice.
